Foster Grandparent Program

foster grandparents 2 004_1The Foster Grandparent Program offers Elkhart and St. Joseph County residents, aged 55 years and over, the opportunity to serve as mentors and tutors for at risk/special needs children and youth in our community. Foster Grandparents volunteer 20 hours of weekly service in local organizations such as: schools, Head Start and day care centers.

Through this intergenerational program, income-eligible participants receive:

  • A tax-free stipend which will not affect Medicaid, Social Security or subsidized housing benefits
  • Paid time off for holidays, sick and vacation days
  • Free daily lunch
  • Transportation provided at no cost to Foster Grandparents
  • On the job insurance
  • Opportunity to impact the community and make new friends
