REAL Services is an umbrella organization for more than 20 programs that assist elderly, disabled and low-income individuals in 12 Northern Indiana County. Our programs address the needs of education, nutrition, self-sufficiency, and protection for 30,000 people in northern Indiana each year.
REAL Services has three “divisions”: Area Agency on Aging, Community Action Agency, and Alzheimer’s Services. These three divisions serve vulnerable older adults and low-income persons of all ages. The emphasis of the Area Agency on Aging is to assist older people to maintain independence as much as possible. The emphasis of the Community Action Agency is to assist low-income families to achieve self-sufficiency. Alzheimer’s Services of Northern Indiana provides support to those suffering from dementia and their families and caregivers.
REAL Services exists as a unique organization with a network of unduplicated services. These cost-effective programs are designed to enhance or enable self-sufficiency while making a lasting difference in people’s lives and the health of the community.
The ultimate objective of REAL Services is to assist in establishing a community in which those we serve can maintain their independence to the maximum degree possible and find meaning and satisfaction throughout their lives.
The operation of REAL Services is based upon a number of principles and beliefs. Policies have been developed from these and when properly implemented they will ensure the success and further growth of this Agency.
|1.||We believe in the inherent dignity of human beings and will always have that in mind in any action we take.|
We believe that all people are important; that every individual has equal rights and must have equal opportunities. We will take strong measures to ensure that this belief is reflected in our activities and that every individual with whom we deal is treated courteously, and with compassion and understanding.
All affairs of this Agency will be conducted under high ethical standards and with personal integrity.

From the opportunities available to us, we will use our best judgment in selecting those which:
Programs to meet needs will be of high quality, developed in a timely fashion, and well maintained.
|7.||We will face our problems squarely, be diligent in seeking the most beneficial solution, and courageous in taking proper action regardless of difficulties encountered.|
We believe that any static organization becomes stagnant and ineffective. We also believe we face almost endless opportunities to expand our service to those we serve. We will constantly be alert to opportunities, which under this philosophy and within this policy may be available to us.
We believe that good management must quickly and effectively confront and resolve situations which arise that conflict with our mission. We pledge that this will be done.
